Rolls-Royce Motor Cars unveiled its Bespoke collection symbolizing the “Year of the Dragon” on May 5, 2024. This Bespoke collection, celebrating the Lunar New Year on February 10th, is inspired by the dragon symbolizing power, success and prosperity, and is limited to a total of 4 units based on 3 Phantom Extended and 1 Cullinan. .

The traditional shape of the dragon is faithfully reproduced throughout the interior and exterior of this Bespoke collection, while a modern and concise expression of the dragon is applied. The three collections included a band panel that reinterpreted the shape of a dragon into a highly modern work of art, using the color red, which symbolizes prosperity and good luck.

The three works were created through the delicate handwork of dedicated Rolls-Royce artists and the work process alone took more than two weeks each. To create a complex three-dimensional pattern different shades of red were used in four stages, a total of four layers were combined to create a realistic 3D effect that made the work look as if it had been carved from sash.

This dragon motif extends subtly into the interior spaces. The “Phoenix Red” stitching applied to each of the four headrests creates a stark contrast with the leather of the seat, available in white or black. To express the dynamism of the dragon that appears to be in constant motion, Rolls-Royce craftsmen precisely aligned the direction of the stitch and adjusted the density. Each embroidery consisted of 5,449 stitches and this work process alone took more than 20 hours.

Additionally, a simple reinterpretation of the circular zodiac sign has been engraved on the piano black picnic table located on the back of the three units in the collection. The name of the animal representing each year is engraved in Chinese characters and the dragon is highlighted in gold. The fourth collection features a bespoke artwork depicting a dragon on a black stainless steel veneer top.

The custom collection based on Phantom Extended culminates with an art gallery that spans the entire range. The artwork, made of carbon fiber, is carefully protected by glass and blends with the dynamic shape of a dragon. The interior is also complemented by custom-made fleece mats that match the leather upholstery perfectly.

For each model, a unique color scheme has been applied to the exterior of the vehicle. Two-tone Cherry Red and Selby Gray colors with a crystal finish have been applied to the Cullinan to add uniqueness. The Phantom Extended is available in a two-tone silver and cherry red combination or a solid black color with a crystal finish.

All four cars in the collection feature custom coach lines hand-painted in Phoenix Red and exquisitely incorporate a dragon motif. Each dragon faces right, symbolizing the east, the direction from which the sun rises.

Jonathan Simms, head of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Bespoke, said: “Rolls-Royce creates products inspired by world cultures and traditions based on designs, patterns, materials and colors that best represent our customers and have meaning “This bespoke collection, inspired by the Year of the Dragon in 2024, expresses respect for various cultures while also expressing modernity and minimalism in line with luxury consumer trends around the world,” he said.
