Avichai Mandelblit Testifies in Netanyahu Trial
Mandelblit indicted Netanyahu seven years ago on charges of fraud, breach of trust, and accepting bribes, marking the first time a sitting Israeli prime minister faced criminal charges. Netanyahu handpicked Mandelblit, his former Cabinet secretary, for the attorney general position that he held until 2022. The prime minister is accused of trading favors with wealthy associates and media figures for political gain, allegations he consistently denies.
Saudi Arabia Closes Airport After Deadly Strike
Saudi Arabia placed its security forces on high alert and moved Riyadh schools to online learning Sunday following a deadly missile strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. According to reports from abcnews.com, wtop.com, and thestar.com, the attack killed 12 people and wounded more than 300 on Saturday. Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels warned of additional airstrikes across the kingdom after the airport incident, which marked a major escalation in the regional conflict.
Gaza Residents Return to Damaged Homes
Residents in central Gaza returned to their neighborhoods Sunday morning to survey the damage after receiving evacuation warnings from the Israeli military the previous day. Local resident Bassam Abed stated that at least 10 residential buildings housing around 300 families were destroyed, leaving many residents without sufficient time to flee safely. Women slept outdoors. We did not take clothes,
Abed told reporters. The Israeli military maintained that the strikes targeted militant infrastructure, including weapons storage facilities, a rocket launch site, and a command center operated by Hamas.
United States Lifts Decades-Old Flight Ban to Lebanon
The White House officially lifted a ban on direct flights between the United States and Lebanon, fulfilling a commitment President Donald Trump made in July. The Reagan administration originally suspended direct flights in 1985 following the hijacking of TWA Flight 847. While the Lebanese embassy in Washington welcomed the decision as a major step forward, U.S. carriers are expected to remain cautious about resuming routes due to ongoing regional air traffic disruptions stemming from the war with Iran.
