Second Day of Humanitarian Aid Supplies Enter Gaza Despite Israeli Siege

On October 22nd, a convoy of 14 trucks carrying much-needed humanitarian aid supplies arrived at the Palestinian autonomous region of Gaza from the border with Egypt. This marked the second consecutive day that supplies had been delivered, and the second occurrence since the initiation of Israel’s “total siege”. Egyptian volunteers were captured near one of the trucks that entered Gaza on the same day (2023, Reuters).

According to Juliet Thoma, spokeswoman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Jordan, this announcement was made via telephone. Witnesses reported an explosion at the border and the sound of an ambulance siren, but the Israeli army claims that an Israeli tank mistakenly fired at an Egyptian base near the border.

In response, an Egyptian military spokesman confirmed that several members of their border guards were injured by shrapnel from an Israeli tank, causing minor wounds. Medical personnel and witnesses reported that seven individuals were injured and transported to the hospital.

Expressing their remorse, the Israel Defense Forces issued a statement affirming their commitment to investigating the incident. Sources indicate that a total of approximately 19 trucks were deployed for the second shipment, carrying medical and food supplies.

Previously, 20 trucks had delivered supplies. Distribution commenced on the 22nd, but officials caution against an impending humanitarian crisis due to scarcities of food, water, and fuel. For additional information, please refer to the “Related Content” menu on the right side of the screen.*
