[디지털투데이 AI리포터] Social media platform Snapchat has launched a new augmented reality (AR) filter that allows you to try on virtual nails.

According to IT media The Verge on the 25th (local time), users can apply 2D colors and designs to their nails with this filter and try them on virtually before buying a nail polish that fits their nails.

The filter looked more realistic than expected, but some errors occurred when the hand moved out of a certain position. This new AR nail technology is being launched in collaboration with nail specialist brand OPI.

In addition, Snapchat has added a number of try-on functions using the camera, from beauty products like lipstick to clothes and accessories. There’s also a shopping feature that allows users to try and buy sunglasses, developed in partnership with e-commerce giant Amazon.

The OPI filter is not connected to the online shopping function, but it is explained that Snapchat is close to the goal of collaborating with brands to provide AR shopping services.
