At the 75th Cannes Film Festival, actor Song Kang-ho won the Best Actor Award and director Park Chan-wook received the Best Director Award, setting a record for the first time in Korean film history to win two Cannes Film Festival awards. This is the first time for a Korean actor to win the Best Actor award at one of the world’s top three film festivals.

At the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival held in Cannes on the 28th (local time), Song Kang-ho, who starred in the Korean movie ‘The Broker’ made by Hirokazu Koreeda, was named as the winner of the Best Actor Award. He was moved by hugging with director Park Chan-wook and actor Park Hae-il, who were sitting next to each other in succession with actor Kang Dong-won and director Kore-eda, who appeared together in ‘The Broker’.

On the stage, he greeted with “Mercy Boku (thank you)” in French with a relatively calm appearance. Afterwards, he said, “I am very grateful and honored,” and “I am deeply grateful to the artist, director Hirokazu Koreeda.” Director Koreeda responded by raising his thumb from the audience.

He continued, “I want to share this honor with the actors I worked with. I dedicate the glory and love of this trophy.”

Song Kang-ho was selected as a strong candidate for the Best Actor Award even when his previous films ‘Bat’, ‘Miryang’ and ‘Parasite’ entered the competition section of the Cannes Film Festival. .

At the awards ceremony, the director’s award went to director Park Chan-wook, who entered the competition for the first time in six years in the feature film ‘Decision to break up’. Director Park went on stage and said, “Through the Covid era, there was a time when our human race raised the border high, and we shared another single fear and concern. It happened,” he said. He then comforted filmmakers around the world, saying, “Just as we have hope and strength to overcome this disease, we believe that filmmakers will protect cinemas and protect films forever.” He also said, “I would like to express my gratitude to those who have given all their support to make this film. I will omit further detailed explanation.”
