South Korea’s Presidential Power Struggle: Lee Jae-myung Denounces ‘Political Oppression’ as Moon Fires Back with Scathing Criticism
Lee Jae-myung Meets with Former President Moon Jae-in, Denounces Prosecution’s Investigation as Political Retaliation
Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung recently paid a visit to former President Moon Jae-in, where they discussed the ongoing prosecution’s investigation and its implications on the country’s politics.
According to sources, the meeting took place at former President Moon’s private residence, where he personally greeted Representative Lee and other party leaders. The conversation lasted approximately 40 minutes, with the main topic of discussion being the criticism of the government.
Both Representative Lee and former President Moon expressed their concerns regarding the prosecution’s investigation, labeling it as “political retaliation” and ”oppression.” Former President Moon emphasized that he would face the situation with dignity, while Representative Lee stated that the government’s actions towards former President Moon’s family were “incomprehensible both politically and legally.”
The Democratic Party has since formed a ‘Committee to Counter Political Suppression of the Former Regime’ under Representative Lee’s direction, with pro-Myeong faction lawmaker Kim Young-jin appointed as its chairman. This move is seen as a significant escalation of the party’s struggle against the current government.
Representative Lee and former President Moon also agreed on the urgency of a change in government, citing the current president’s lack of preparedness as the root cause of the country’s chaos and increasing anxiety among the people.
Earlier in the day, Representative Lee visited the grave of former President Roh Moo-hyun and paid a courtesy call on Ms. Kwon Yang-sook, further solidifying his stance against the current government.
