The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has announced a special ticketing and service plan for the seven World Cup matches scheduled to take place this summer at Boston Stadium, also known as Gillette Stadium, in Foxborough.

Roundtrip Boston Stadium Train tickets between South Station and the stadium will cost $80. These tickets are sold exclusively through the mTicket app.

The pricing has drawn criticism from some fans, as it represents a significant increase over typical event fares. For comparison, a standard non-event Commuter Rail ticket from Boston to Foxborough is $8.75, and special event tickets for New England Patriots games or New England Revolution matches generally cost approximately $20.

Ticket Availability and Requirements

Tickets for the first five matches went on sale at 11 a.m. On Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Tickets for the Round 32 and Quarter-Final matches will be made available closer to their respective match dates.

The MBTA has implemented specific requirements for purchasing these tickets. Fans must possess a match ticket before they can purchase a train ticket, and the email address used for both purchases must be identical. Passengers will be required to present their match ticket to board the train.

While children 11 and under typically ride the MBTA for free, they will require a paid ticket for these specific World Cup services.

Service Details and Network Access

To manage the expected increase in ridership, the MBTA will operate 14 express trains dedicated to transporting passengers from South Station to Foxborough on match days.

Service Details and Network Access

The $80 ticket provides more than just travel to the stadium; it is valid for travel across the entire Commuter Rail network on match days. This provision is intended to give visitors greater flexibility regarding where they choose to stay while attending the tournament.

MBTA Interim Secretary and General Manager Phillip Eng stated that the Commuter Rail is intended to be a predictable and affordable alternative to driving, parking, and facing event-day traffic delays.

Taking the Commuter Rail will be one of the easiest and most affordable ways to get to and from the Stadium.

Coordination and Planning

The MBTA has been planning for the event for over a year to ensure the agency can support the influx of global soccer fans. The planning process has involved coordination with several entities, including:

  • The Healey-Driscoll Administration
  • Boston26
  • Local municipalities
  • Gillette Stadium and The Kraft Group

The tournament is scheduled to take place in June and July, with the MBTA aiming to deliver unprecedented transit services to accommodate the seven matches held at the venue.
