Student dies during injection; Three arrested, including doctor Arrest | Kozhikode

Nadapuram (Kozhikode): Three people, including a doctor, have been arrested in connection with the death of a student during an injection at a private clinic. He is the Managing Director and Pediatrician at the Nucleus Clinic. Salahuddin, managing partner Rashid from Mudavantheri and nurse Shani from Perot were arrested.

The incident took place on February 14. The deceased has been identified as Tejdev, 12, son of Padikalakandi Rajeesh, a native of Kakat Vattoli. Tejdev, who came with his mother to seek treatment for coffee, was admitted to the clinic. The nurse was feeling unwell after the injection. He was rushed to a hospital in Thalassery but could not be rescued.

The postmortem report stated that the cause of death was respiratory failure. However, the relatives lodged a complaint with the Nadapuram police alleging that the death was the fault of the authorities. A subsequent investigation by the Medical Board, chaired by the DMO, found that the clinic had failed.

Shani was found to be inadequate and did not obtain parental consent when the student was admitted to the clinic. Police said the doctor and managing partner were arrested for hiring Shani, who was not qualified enough, to work at the clinic as a nurse and to administer injections. They have been charged under IPC 304 (a) with involuntary manslaughter. The accused were released on bail.
