Swimmer Tsanko Tsankov with a prestigious nomination from the World Open Water Swimming Association

After the historic Catalina Strait swim in the USA last August, Burgas swimmer Tsanko Tsankov was nominated in the “Man of the Year” category in the ranking of the World Open Water Swimming Association. Tsanko Tsankov is also the first Bulgarian to complete two of the most difficult open water swimming marathons in the world – the Strait of Gibraltar from Europe to Africa and the Catalina Strait in the Pacific Ocean. WOWSA named him in the Top 40 of all 616 athletes who achieved significant success in icy waters in 2023. The nomination comes ahead of Tsanko Tsankov’s upcoming participation in the Ocean 7 Swim Marathon in New Zealand’s Cook Strait. It is 23 km long. and a water temperature of 15 degrees Celsius. The record-breaking swimmer is currently preparing at the base in Belmeken, and will then continue his training in the sea, despite the low water temperatures. He dedicated his nomination to all Bulgarians and especially to his native Burgas.
