The appeal was not strong and the umpire did not call out; Poonam ‘out’ herself! | Poonam Raut Wicket

The cricketing world applauded the sportsman spirit of Poonam Rawat, the Indian cricketer who left the crease after realizing that the umpire was out despite not being called out in the historic Pink Ball Test against Sydney, Australia. Poonam Rawat was ruled out of the second day of the lone cricket Test against Australia despite not being called up by the umpire. Poonam scored 36 off 165 balls with two fours. He added his maiden Test century with opener Smriti Manthana for the second wicket.

On the second day, Poonam ‘Swayam’ came out in the first session in the 81st over. Sophie Molineux bowled the over in the fourth ball to Poonam wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy.

The Aussies appealed for a catch on the grounds that the ball had hit the bat, but the umpire refused. It was clear from the weak appeal that the Australian players were also confused as to whether it was a catch. Poonam had a chance to stay at the crease after the umpire denied him an out. This was when the DRS system was not used in this test. However, scenes that shocked everyone were later seen on the field. Poonam Rawat, who was sure that the ball had hit the bat, took the bat and walked to the pavilion!

Rawat returned to the pavilion after being greeted by the umpires. At first, they were bowled out, but later the Aussies went into wicket-taking. Australia’s batsman Beth Mooney has made it clear that he will not go out as the umpire did not call him out on such an occasion. Poonam Rawat’s work is getting a lot of applause on social media.
