A teacher who stood a pupil and one who returned from the school’s art festival in Ernakulam Tripunithura was arrested. Kiran Karunakaran, a resident of Ernakulam Pattimatam, was arrested by the Hilpalas police of Tamil Nadu. The three teachers who defended the accused by covering up the molestation despite the student’s complaint were also involved in the case.

Last Wednesday, the teacher hit the student while returning from the arts festival. Due to the bus strike, the student’s parents were sending the student with an acquaintance teacher. The student was attacked while returning on two wheels after the arts festival. The teacher who spoke sexually at first then molested the child.

The student reported this information to other teachers at the school the next day, but they did not report this to the police. There was a huge protest as the school authorities tried to protect the teacher. The teacher’s vehicle was vandalised. The police found out about the harassment through the school counsellor. With this, the teacher Kiran went to hide. It was posted on the school’s teachers group, saying he would take his own life. The investigation team confirmed that the accused was in Tamil Nadu during the investigation based on the mobile number. Kiran was arrested from Nagercoil by a team led by CI Gopakumar with the help of Tamil Nadu Special Branch. Apart from hiding the information about the molestation, a case was also filed against the other teachers for persuading the student’s family to withdraw the case. The police said that the accused Kiran had committed a similar crime earlier.
