Regarding North Korea’s launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile, the foreign ministers of South Korea, the United States, and Japan said, “We strongly urge North Korea to immediately stop its provocative and destabilizing actions that threaten peace and security.”
Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol, U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken, and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya issued a joint statement saying, “We spoke by phone to strongly condemn North Korea’s ICBM launch,” which was a clear violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions.
In a statement, the foreign ministers of the three countries said, “We note that this was done after North Korea announced that South Korea is a hostile country under its constitution,” adding, “The United States and Japan reaffirm their support for the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula and pledge that North Korea will immediately return to dialogue.” “I urge you to do so,” he said.
He then emphasized, “Only through dialogue can we achieve permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.”
He also said, “Through close cooperation with the international community, we will strengthen our efforts to block North Korea from generating illegal profits to fund its illegal weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs.”
They added, “South Korea, the United States, and Japan condemn in the strongest possible terms the continued illegal transfer of weapons and the deepening of military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, including the dispatch of North Korean troops.”
