ANKARA (Reuters) – Turkey’s Ministry of Trade announced on the 2nd that all imports and exports with Israel have been suspended. The reason for the move was the “escalating humanitarian tragedy” in the Palestinian autonomous region of Gaza.

The suspension of imports and exports will continue until the Israeli government authorizes an adequate flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Earlier, Israeli Foreign Minister Katz criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for violating the agreement by blocking import and export ports with Israel. “This is the behavior of a dictator who ignores the interests of Turkish people and businessmen,” one person wrote on X. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was said to have been instructed to consider alternative measures, such as domestic production or imports from countries other than Turkey.

Last year, the total trade between the two countries was $6.8 billion.
