(Washington = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kyunghee Kim = On the 7th (local time), the US Department of Defense repeatedly urged China’s active involvement and its role in preventing North Korea’s continued provocations.

Sabrina Singh, deputy spokeswoman for the Department of Defense, said in a briefing that day that National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan had said in a briefing last month that if North Korea’s provocations continued, there would be no choice but to strengthen the military power of the Army the United States in the region, and asked for China to persuade North Korea. He said, “We welcome China’s involvement in North Korea.”

Deputy Speaker Singh said, “Previously, Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed his position that he welcomes China’s participation in easing tensions on the North Korean issue.”

“We are committed to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and in that regard we welcome China’s participation in this matter,” he added.

Previously, in a briefing before the US-China summit on the 11th of last month, Councilor Sullivan emphasized that North Korea is a threat to peace and stability in the region and said, “If North Korea continues to follow this path, it will be no choice but to further strengthen the military and security capabilities of the United States in the region. I will say (to President Xi) that it means.”
