[ワシントン 8日 ロイター] – The US House of Representatives refused on the 8th the request by the conservative Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene to vote on a motion to remove the Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (Republican).

The proposal was approved by a significant margin of 359 in favor and 43 against. The situation where the parliament would be thrown into chaos due to the absence of the speaker was avoided. Greene filed a motion in March calling for Johnson’s dismissal, arguing that he lacked the qualifications to hold the position. See more

Greene’s actions drew attention as an unusual defiance of former President Trump, who is certain to be the Republican nominee for the US presidential election. Trump posted on social media after the motion to impeach him failed, saying now is not the time for Republicans to try to impeach their own chairman.

Mr Johnson said: “I appreciate the confidence expressed by my colleagues,” and “I hope that the character attacks that are currently rampant in this parliament will stop.”

In a press conference, Green did not rule out trying to get rid of Johnson again.
