Counting is in progress in Hastinapur constituency in Lucknow Meerut. Actress and model Archana Gautam, who is contesting as a Congress candidate, is behind. Archana has received 270 votes so far. Sitting MLA and BJP candidate Dinesh Khatik is leading with 20,438 votes. SP candidate Yogesh Verma has so far bagged 13,546 votes and BSP’s Sanjeev Kumar 2,683 votes.
In 2017, Dinesh Khatik of the BJP won. The victory was 99,436 votes. In 2012, SP’s Prabhu Dayal Balmiki won by 46,742 votes. The BJP had criticized the Congress for fielding Miss Bikini winner Archana Gautam.
Archana, who was elected Miss Bikini in 2018, was nominated by the Congress after her opponents went viral with old bikini pictures. Archana then came on the scene with a request not to link work with politics. The Congress had reacted by saying that it was wrong for an artist to want to get involved in politics.
