[Sydney, 5th Reuters]-Australian Prime Minister Morrison said on the 5th that Novak Djokovic (Serbia), the world’s number one player in men’s tennis, was exempted from vaccination with the new coronavirus when he entered the Australian Open. He insisted that it was necessary to prove the exemption from vaccination by Serbia, and said that if he could not prove it, he would return to Japan on the next flight.

In this year’s Australian Open, all athletes participating will be required to be vaccinated from the perspective of preventing the spread of infection, but if approved by the Independent Committee, vaccination will be exempted for medical reasons.

“We are waiting for his explanation,” the Prime Minister said at the press conference. “If the evidence is insufficient, we will not treat it specially. We will return to Japan on the next flight.”

The federal government is not involved in the vaccination exemption process. In Australia, more than 90% of the population over the age of 16 has been vaccinated twice, and there have been severe criticisms of Djokovic’s exemption.
