Japan Volleyball League Chairman Hiroyuki Kokubu (left) and Vice Chairman Masaaki Okawa hold a press conference in Tokyo on the 26th.

The Japan Volleyball League Organization (V League Organization) announced on the 26th that the V League will be reorganized and the name of the new league to be launched in the fall of 2024 will be the “SV League”. It comes from the “S” of “Strong, Spread, and Society.” At a press conference in Tokyo, chairman Hiroyuki Kokubu said, “We want to make the league worthy of being called the best in the world in terms of organizational strength, competitiveness and business power.”

We do not require each team operation to be an independent corporation or each player to be professional. Applications for the licenses needed to join the new league will begin this summer, with a maximum of 16 teams each for men and women. A home and away system will be adopted, and the name of the team will include the name of the region.
