As this year marks the first year of 2050 carbon neutrality, a point system and a deposit system for disposable cups are introduced in large numbers to practice carbon neutrality in daily life.

On the 18th, the Ministry of Environment announced the details of the 2022 work plan containing such content.

①Practice point system: Earn up to 70,000 won per person per year

First of all, the carbon-neutral practice point system will be implemented from the 19th. Providing incentives for carbon-neutral practices in daily life △Issuing electronic receipts instead of paper receipts △Selecting reusable containers when using food delivery apps △Renting pollution-free cars from ride-sharing companies △Use of refillable containers when purchasing detergents and cosmetics △Environment-friendly with green cards There are six categories, including product purchase and participation in the climate action 1.5 degree app.

Incentives are given in cash or credit card points. You can receive up to 70,000 won per person per year. 5,000 won is provided just for making a commitment to practice, 100 won for electronic receipts, 2,000 won for each refill station, and 1,000 won for using multi-use containers and purchasing eco-friendly products. All of them have an upper limit of 10,000 won, and the maximum amount is set at 25,000 won and 5,000 won per session only for unoccupied car rentals. The current incentive budget is 2.46 billion won. In principle, incentives are paid every month, but since it takes time to establish a settlement and payment system, only this time, the company plans to pay the lump sum in May.

② Disposable cup deposit system: 200~500 won per cup deposit from June

From June 10, a deposit system for disposable cups will also be implemented. Targets include △franchisor headquarters or franchisees (coffee, beverage, bakery, fast food) with more than 100 stores, △restaurant business or bakery business, and more than 38,000 stores nationwide.

The amount of the deposit is around 200~500 won, and the exact amount will be disclosed at the time of the notice of the Enforcement Rule of the Resource Recycling Act this month. Cups subject to deposit can be returned at stores other than beverage purchase stores, and for the convenience of consumers, unmanned collection machines are also planned to be installed in public places. The deposit is managed by the Resource Circulation Deposit Management Center established in June of last year, and is paid by way of account transfer when returning the cup.

③ Prohibition of use of disposable plastic: Prohibition of purchase itself from November

From November 24, the use of single-use plastic bags will be banned in large-scale stores over 3,000 square meters and supermarkets of 165 square meters, as well as general retail businesses such as convenience stores and bakeries. You can buy envelopes for 10 to 20 won at the store now, but from then on, you can’t buy them at all.

Disposable paper cups, plastic straws, and stirrers in food service stores, such as coffee shops, are also prohibited in food service and food service establishments. It is a step forward from the ban on the use of disposable products in food service stores that took effect on April 1. In the ban on disposable products that took effect in April, disposable products include cups, containers, plates, and disposable wooden chopsticks, spoons, forks, and knives made of synthetic resin and metal foil specified by law.
