What does the aid package from the USA bring? One problem remains

Parts of the US aid package worth billions have already arrived in Ukraine. But a problem remains.

The Ukrainian military is under massive pressure. This week Russia made a breakthrough near Ocheretyne, a small town north of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine. And the pressure is also growing on other parts of the front. At the same time, Kiev has received the first aid deliveries from the USA, including ATACMS missiles with a range of up to 300 kilometers.

Can US aid help Ukraine fight back? Is the turning point now coming at the front? t-online editor-in-chief Florian Harms and t-online political reporter Johannes Bebermeier discuss this in the new “Tagesbruch” podcast episode. Florian Harms says that, in addition to further arms deliveries, there must also be diplomatic efforts to find a solution: “It takes both.” But he also points out a problem in Ukraine that remains despite the aid deliveries.

It is also about Economics Minister Habeck’s plan to expand the arms industry in Germany. Johannes Bebermeier was there on Habeck’s trip to Ukraine. He reports on the experiences on site and analyzes the problems of Habeck’s plans. Can the minister succeed in speeding up the slow bureaucratic processes? What does Germany have to forego if it spends more and more on armaments? And isn’t this plan coming way too late? There are answers in the podcast episode above.
