Meats like pork belly and bulgogi have a higher cholesterol content than other side dishes, so they are often considered foods that damage blood vessel health and make you gain weight easily.

However, experts say: “Eating meat as you get older is better for your health.” Why is meat good for your health?

Healthy ways to eat meat revealed by experts.

◇ As you get older, you have to eat meat to supplement protein!

Muscle mass that decreases with age can be compensated for by consuming meat. If meat consumption decreases, muscle mass decreases and the risk of fractures increases.

In the case of the elderly, the rate of nutrient absorption decreases, making it easy for them to develop nutritional deficiencies, so they must eat meat for their health even as they get older.

◇ Is high cholesterol in meat bad for your health?

Many people are reluctant to eat meat because they fear its high cholesterol content. In fact, 100 g of pork ribs contain 69 mg of cholesterol, 100 g of beef tripe contains 190 mg of cholesterol and 100 g of chicken wings contain 116 mg of cholesterol. Considering that 100 g of chocolate contains 14 mg of cholesterol, the cholesterol level in meat is high.

So, if you eat meat, will bad cholesterol build up in your blood? If you are a healthy person, you don’t have to worry even if you consume a lot of cholesterol because your body can naturally regulate its synthesis.

For this reason, several years ago, the United States Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee removed the recommendation to limit cholesterol to 300 mg per day. Additionally, health experts say we should be more careful about “refined carbohydrates” like biscuits and bread rather than meat.

This is because eating a lot of refined carbohydrates increases the level of triglycerides in the blood and lowers the level of good cholesterol, increasing the risk of developing heart disease.

◇ Perfect as a dietary food!

Meat is more satisfying than other foods. According to a study conducted by Professor Heather Reidy of the University of Missouri School of Medicine, the group that ate more protein felt fuller even when consuming the same amount of calories.

It’s important to note that if you don’t consume proteins like meat, you may lose muscle and decrease your basal metabolic rate, resulting in a build that makes you prone to gaining weight.
