Biathlon originated from Northern Europe and evolved from ski hunting, combining cross-country skiing and shooting, and later became a medieval military training subject. In 1960, the 8th Squaw Valley Winter Olympics was included in the official competition. . The biathlon competition of the Beijing Winter Olympics will be held at the National Biathlon Center in the Zhangjiakou Division, with a total of 11 gold medals.

Recreate the ancient hunting game:

Biathlon originated in Scandinavia and evolved from ski hunting in ancient times. Some 4,000-year-old stone carvings in Nordic countries such as Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden show scenes of two people chasing animals in the snow on snowboards with sticks in hand. From the Middle Ages, the program was gradually incorporated into military training subjects. In 1767, the world’s first biathlon competition was held on the border between Norway and Sweden.

Project Description:

Biathlon was listed as a performance event as early as the 1924, 1928, 1936 and 1948 Winter Olympics. It was called “military patrol competition” at the time, but it was not universally recognized. After 1948, The project temporarily bid farewell to the Olympic Games. It was not until 1960 that the 8th Squaw Valley Winter Olympics in the United States listed biathlon as an official event. The contestants carried special small-caliber rifles on their backs during the competition, and shot a round every time they glided a distance. The first to reach the finish line win.

Biathlon tests the ability to convert static and dynamic. Competitors arrive at the shooting position after arduous cross-country skiing. Competitors of different disciplines need to shoot several rounds, with 5 bullets in each round, and 5 targets at a distance of 50 meters. In individual competitions, a one-minute penalty will be added for each missed serve. For sprint races, pursuit races and group start races, one missed shot will be penalized for one lap, and each lap will be 150 meters. In relay and mixed relay competitions, each person has 3 spare bullets per round. If they still fail to hit all 5 targets after use, they will be fined one lap for each missed target.

In biathlon, the top runners at the beginning do not necessarily have the last laugh. The long journey has staged a tragicomedy that reverses the plot. The biggest charm of this sport is to seek a breakthrough between fast and slow, movement and stillness, and this precisely interprets the philosophy of life.

At the Beijing Winter Olympics, a total of 11 gold medals were won in biathlon, including men’s 10km sprint, 20km individual, 12.5km chase, 15km collective start, 4×7.5km relay, women’s 7.5km sprint, 15km individual, 10km chase, 12.5km group start, 4x6km relay, and mixed event 4x6km mixed relay.

Great powers compete:

Compared with some European powers, China’s biathlon started late, but its development is not slow. At the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, Yu Shumei won the 5th place in the short-distance 7.5km competition (10 out of 10 shots), which is the best record achieved by a Chinese biathlete in the Winter Olympics so far.

In the Beijing Winter Olympics, the Chinese team, coached by the legendary Norwegian biathlon star Bjordalen and his wife Domracheva, will strive for good results at home. In the field of biathlon mixed relay, the Norwegian team has a strong strength. The Norwegian team, which has won the mixed relay championship in the World Championships for three consecutive times, is undoubtedly the favorite to win this event in the Beijing Winter Olympics. At the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, Yoo Bowie, who won the gold medal in the men’s 20km individual event, and the late-blooming female athlete Reseland, are undoubtedly the pillars of the Norwegian team. At the Beijing Winter Olympics, Norwegian players will face challenges from top players from Sweden, Germany, France, Russia, Belarus and other countries.

Biathlon is a traditional winter sport in Europe. So far, only Kazakhstan has won a silver medal in the Winter Olympics in Asian countries. China, Japan, South Korea and other countries have not yet reached the podium in this event.
