World Leaders Pay Condolences to Kuwait After Death of Emir Nawaf Ahmad al-Sabah

[クウェート 17日 ロイター] – Following the death of Emir Nawaf Ahmad al-Sabah of Kuwait on the 15th, a number of foreign dignitaries came to Kuwait to express their condolences. Nawaf’s younger brother, 83-year-old Crown Prince Mishal Ahmad al-Sabah, will take over as leader, having already taken over most of Nawaf’s duties due to his health problems.

The de facto supreme ruler of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammad, and Emir Tamim of Qatar arrive in Kuwait. He will hold a separate meeting with Mr. Mishal.

The Prime Minister of Iraq and the Foreign Minister of Iran also expressed their condolences. Kuwait was invaded by Iraq in 1990 and occupied until 1991.

From the United States, Defense Secretary Austin went to Kuwait (corrected), and from the Kuwaiti side he was welcomed by the foreign minister and the defense minister. King Abdullah of Jordan, President Sisi of Egypt, and President Abbas of the Palestinian Authority also arrived in Kuwait.

Nawaf, who died aged 86, and was buried on the 17th. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
