Microsoft has introduced a new feature that simplifies how Xbox users can spend their Microsoft Rewards points directly on the console, streamlining access to digital content without needing to navigate external websites or apps.

The update, rolled out in early April 2026, adds a dedicated “Spend Points” option within the Microsoft Rewards section of the Xbox dashboard. Users can now redeem their accumulated points for Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, game downloads, add-ons, and other digital content with just a few clicks from their console.

Previously, Xbox users had to visit the Microsoft Rewards website or use the mobile app to redeem points before applying them to purchases on the console. This extra step often caused friction, particularly for users who preferred managing everything directly from their Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One devices.

The new integration eliminates that barrier by allowing point redemptions to occur natively within the Xbox interface. Once points are spent, the corresponding credit is immediately applied to the user’s Microsoft account balance and can be used during checkout in the Microsoft Store on Xbox.

According to Microsoft’s official Rewards FAQ updated on April 5, 2026, the feature supports redemption for:

  • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Core subscriptions
  • Full game purchases and downloadable content (DLC)
  • In-game currency and microtransactions
  • Movies, TV shows, and apps available in the Microsoft Store

Points are earned through everyday activities such as searching with Bing, completing daily sets, participating in surveys, and purchasing games or subscriptions. The update does not change how points are accumulated but focuses solely on improving the redemption experience.

Microsoft confirmed the change in a support post on its Xbox Wire blog, noting that the update responds to user feedback requesting more direct control over Rewards benefits within the Xbox ecosystem.

“We heard from our community that redeeming Rewards should feel as seamless as earning them,” said a Microsoft spokesperson in the blog post. “This update brings the full value of Microsoft Rewards closer to where our players spend their time — on the console.”

The enhancement aligns with Microsoft’s broader strategy to deepen engagement across its gaming and services platforms by reducing friction in user workflows. It also strengthens the value proposition of Xbox Game Pass, as users can now more easily convert Rewards points into extended access to the service.

Industry analysts note that such improvements are critical in retaining users within the Xbox ecosystem, especially as competition intensifies with PlayStation’s Plus tiers and Nintendo’s expanding online offerings. By making Rewards more accessible, Microsoft aims to increase both point redemption rates and overall console engagement.

As of April 2026, the feature is available to all Xbox users running the latest system update (version 2206.1001.26040 or later) on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Xbox One S|X consoles. No additional sign-up or beta enrollment is required.

Microsoft Rewards remains free to join and operates in over 30 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Australia. Points do not expire as long as the account remains active, with activity defined as earning or redeeming at least once every 18 months.
