UN Secretary General “Focuses on response to earthquake damage… Expects international help”

The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, promised help to Turkey and Syria, where the earthquake occurred on the 6th local time, and urged the international community to help.

“The United Nations is committed to helping respond to the earthquake,” Guterres said in a statement. “We assess needs and provide support on the ground.”

“I expect the international community to help thousands of homes affected by this disaster,” he said.

The United Nations General Assembly began after a moment of silence for the victims of the earthquake.
