[방송][Y리뷰] ‘Pyramid Game’, the more you watch it, the more you wonder about the ending… Rookies have come together properly

It’s definitely different from the academy stuff we’ve done so far. Furthermore, it is a psychological thriller called ‘Pyramid Game’ that clearly reveals ‘a microcosm of society’.

TVING’s original drama ‘Pyramid Game’, composed of relatively new talent, was unveiled on the 29th of last month. It is worth noting that the story unfolds in a tight manner that makes you increasingly curious about the backstory, and that all of the performers have an impact comparable to that of the main character.

‘Pyramid Game’ is a drama depicting a cruel survival ranking war in which students are divided into perpetrators, victims, and bystanders in Baekyeon Girls’ High School’s second-year class 5, where outcasts are voted on once a month.

As it is based on the Naver webtoon of the same name, character synchronization is also a point to watch. Cosmic Girls member and actress Kim Ji-yeon leads the play as Seong Soo-ji, a transfer student who turns the game upside down. Actress Ryu Da-in plays the role of Myeong Ja-eun, an outcast throughout her life, and Kang Na-eon plays the role of idol trainee Lim Ye-rim. In particular, the joining of Jang Da-ah, who is well-known as Ive’s Jang Won-young’s older sister, and Shin Seul-gi of ‘Solo Hell 2’ attracted attention.

Jang Da-ah must have felt more pressure about her debut work because she was carrying her younger brother’s back. At the beginning of the play, she played the role of Baek Ha-rin, the unexpected protagonist and everyone’s favorite high-ranking character. For her first role, the role is not small. His acting skills were better than expected and he blended into the play well. When I look at the change in expression from a pure and young face to one that reveals life, the phrase ‘Baek Harin herself’ comes to mind. There are traces of a lot of character analysis.

However, Jang Da-ah is not the only protagonist of the twist. Choi Seong-won’s performance as Lim Joo-hyung, a homeroom teacher for students who are victims of school violence, also stands out. The scene where Seong Soo-ji, who had half-confidently asked for help, was suddenly slapped on the face, reflected the ‘crooked’ adults of this era.

Kim Ji-yeon, who has entered her 9th year as a member of Cosmic Girls and has already completed her acting career in dramas such as ’25, 21′ and ‘Joseon Lawyer’, seems to have entered the ranks of ‘reliable young actors’. When Seong Soo-ji comes out, she looks forward to seeing how she will overcome her difficulties this time. However, up to the released 4th episode, the process of him changing from a victim to a bystander is mainly focused on, and it would have been better if Seong Soo-ji’s psychological changes, which were more confusing than anyone else’s, had been expressed more carefully.

In ‘Pyramid Game’, all 25 female high school actors look like the main characters. There are cases where a character that passed by in the previous scene becomes a major character related to Seongsuji in the next episode. Thanks to this, this work, also called a ‘gateway to new talent’, provides a platform for actors to display their acting skills without hesitation. It feels like all the actors used this diligently and cleverly.

‘Pyramid Game’ is a unique thriller. Bloody or provocative scenes do not appear often. There is an implicit hierarchy among high school girls, and the larger framework of ‘selecting’ legitimate outcasts may feel somewhat foreign. However, as the play progresses and the high-level psychological warfare unfolds, the audience becomes more curious about the outcome of the brain battle and the level of immersion gradually increases.

Meanwhile, ‘Pyramid Game’, episodes 1 to 4 of which were released on the 29th of last month, will have a total of 10 episodes, with two episodes coming out every Thursday.
