[백브리핑AI] Hyundai Baek expands stake in Zinus despite concerns about class action lawsuit against U.S. ‘glass fiber’

[인포스탁데일리=김현욱AI 앵커] Hyundai Department Store continues to acquire additional shares in Jinus, a mattress company that it acquired in March.

The market is paying attention to the background of Hyundai Department Store’s increased stake in Jinus.

Hyundai Department Store acquired about 6.17 million shares (35.82%, or 894.7 billion won) at the time of its acquisition of Ginus in March.

In this situation, Hyundai Department Store has accumulated shares from 10,000 to 24,000 shares several times over the past month.

At the same time, the stake increased by 1.06 percentage points from 35.82% to 36.88%.

In the market, it is judged that it is questionable about expanding the stake in a situation in which management has already been secured.

In response, Hyundai Department Store explained, “It is aimed at enhancing the shareholder value of Zinus, boosting the stock price, and expanding the stake.”

The market recently poured a large amount of money worth 900 billion won to the acquisition of Jinus by Hyundai Department Store, but it is analyzed that there will be a financial burden due to the recent interest rate hike and inflation.

Hyundai Department Store borrowed 579 billion won in the form of commercial papers from Hi Investment & Securities in May.

In the case of commercial paper, the issuance process is simple based on the creditworthiness of the company, so the interest cost is on the high side.

Hyundai Department Store plans to use it as a bridgehead for Genus to enter the global market.

However, since the annual operating profit of Genus is less than 100 billion won, it is an analysis that needs to be approached from a long-term perspective.

In the midst of this, there was a media report that Zinus was facing a class action lawsuit in the United States recently over the ‘glass fiber’ issue.

The glass fiber of the Zinus mattress could cause health problems, so a class action lawsuit was filed, and the US District Court for the Southern District of Illinois in the United States gave a ruling to allow the lawsuit.
