[사회]Prosecutors reconsider whether to stay Jung Kyung-shim’s execution

Prosecutors are reconsidering whether to stay the execution of former Dongyang University professor Jeong Kyung-shim, who has been convicted and jailed on charges of corruption in child entrance exams.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office will hold a sentence suspension discussion committee with the participation of medical personnel and outside persons such as the legal profession from 2 pm on the 4th to discuss whether to accept Professor Jeong’s request.

On the 8th of last month, Professor Jeong re-applied for a stay of execution, saying he needed surgery and treatment for a ruptured herniated disc and paralysis of the lower extremities.

Professor Jeong also applied for a stay of execution in August, but the prosecution did not accept it, saying it was impossible at the time.

The Criminal Procedure Act states that imprisonment can be stopped when there is a risk of serious harm to health.
