MBC also requested the investigation of the prosecution’s summons to Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party.

48.6% of the respondents answered that they exercise their powers of prosecution legally, more than the answer that they target the opposition.

More than half (57%) replied that the investigation into the truth about the 10.29 disaster and the investigation of those responsible was ‘not enough’.

◀ Report ▶

I asked about the prosecution’s successive subpoena notices to Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung.

‘There is no problem because it is a legitimate exercise of the power to prosecute’ 48.6%, ‘There is a problem because it is a target investigation aimed at the representative of the opposition’ 39.9%.

10.29 The results of the investigation by the special police investigation headquarters into the disaster were also requested.

57% of the respondents answered that ‘the investigation into the facts and the investigation into the person in charge was not sufficient’, which was approximately twice as many as ‘sufficient’.

The answer that Public Administration and Security Minister Lee Sang-min should resign to take responsibility for the disaster was still more than half at 51.9%.

38.7% said they did not need to resign.

I also asked for the government’s solution to provide compensation to victims of forced labor during the Japanese occupation to a Korean organization instead of a Japanese war criminals company.

‘Disagree’ was 63.7%, almost three times more than ‘agree’.

The evaluation of press freedom in Yoon Seok-yeol’s government was also asked.

Compared to the Moon Jae-in administration, 44.4% answered that press freedom had been reduced, twice as much as ‘expanded’.

27.6% said there was no difference.

I also asked for political reform.

When asked which system is more suitable, a two-party system or a multi-party system, 56.8% answered that the multi-party system is more suitable, about twice as much as the two-party system with 29.6%.

The fatigue of the current two party system seems to be reflected.

When asked about their preferred method of electing members of the National Assembly, 43.2% answered the single constituency system, 28% the medium-large constituency system, and 15.4% increased party proportional representation.

Maintaining the current single constituency system was the most common, but the answers demanding change were also similar when the two were combined.

For this survey, MBC commissioned Korea Research to ask 1,001 people over the age of 18 nationwide via telephone interviews on January 18 and 19, with a response rate of 14.2% and a sampling error of ±3.1% at a 95% confidence level .
