JAKARTA - Google reports blocking nearly 5.1 billion advertisements and suspending over 39.2 million advertiser accounts in 2024, citing a rise in AI-generated content, imitation fraud, and general abuse of its advertising platform.
According to Google’s 2024 Ad Safety Report, the company specifically addressed the increasing use of generative AI tools to create deceptive content, including videos impersonating celebrities and public figures to promote fraudulent schemes, notably in investment and cryptocurrency sectors.
The company said it suspended more than 700,000 advertiser accounts for policy violations related to AI-driven imitation fraud.
Google stated in its Advertising Safety Report 2024, released Thursday, that it formed a specialized team of over 100 experts to analyze and combat this type of fraud. The team developed effective precautions, including updating misrepresentation policies to suspend advertisers engaged in such practices.
The company reported a 90% decrease in fraud advertising reports following these measures. “Even though we feel happy with this progress, we continue to work to prevent this fraud,” Google said.
While acknowledging the potential for AI to facilitate increased fraud and dangerous advertisements, Google also highlighted AI’s role in identifying and enforcing its policies on publisher pages.
Throughout 2024, Google implemented over 50 improvements to its machine learning model to enhance the detection of emerging threats before user reports are filed.

- 146 million gambling and gaming-related advertisements
- 122.5 million adult content advertisements
