Chandigarh: Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa is all set to succeed Amarinder Singh as Punjab Chief Minister. The move by the Congress High Command is part of a concerted effort. The announcement is expected soon, national media reported. Amarinder resigned after losing the support of the High Command.
Randhawa, 62, was in charge of the jail and co-operation department in the Amarinder cabinet. Rajya Sabha MP Ambika Soni has refused to step down as Chief Minister. A native of Gurdaspur. Amarinder had earlier met Governor Banwarilal Purohit and tendered his resignation ahead of a meeting of the Assembly on the instructions of the High Command.
