BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 23. Azerbaijan’s “Khojaly” dry cargo vessel, a Handysize type operated by ASCO, part of AZCON Holding, has successfully completed a voyage delivering cement from the Port of Tuban in Indonesia to the Port of Kwinana in Australia, ASCO confirmed today.
The company stated that the cargo was safely discharged at the Australian port, and the vessel is currently preparing for its next assignment. This successful delivery marks another milestone for ASCO as it expands its global reach and demonstrates its capabilities in international shipping.
The “Khojaly” is equipped for unrestricted navigation and boasts a deadweight tonnage of 38,593 tons. The vessel’s dimensions are substantial, measuring 180 meters in length and 30 meters in width. Its draft of 10.47 meters, even when fully loaded, allows it access to a variety of ports, including those with shallower draft restrictions.
This voyage follows a series of international journeys for the “Khojaly” since its commissioning in May 2024. In November 2025, the vessel departed from the port of Kembla, Australia, bound for Los Angeles, U.S., carrying 24,251 tons of steel. Prior to that, in April 2025, the “Khojaly” made its first entry into the Indian Ocean, having loaded 37,000 tons of calcined soda at the Port of Portland in the United States and subsequently partially unloaded in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The vessel’s capabilities and operational standards are consistently maintained, with voyages conducted under stringent security protocols and in full compliance with relevant international regulations. The “Khojaly” is capable of a maximum speed of 15.7 knots.
The naming of the vessel “Khojaly” carries significant symbolic weight, representing resilience and remembrance, according to industry observers. The Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) is a key component of the Azerbaijan Transport and Communication Holding (AZCON), and the “Khojaly” represents a strategic investment in expanding Azerbaijan’s commercial fleet and its presence in global trade routes.
The “Khojaly” was built in China and features a cargo deck capacity of 807 square meters and a maximum load capacity of 1700 metric tons. Beyond dry cargo, the vessel is equipped to transport drill water, cement, brine, and mud in dedicated tanks, adding to its versatility.
