Firaxis Games has responded to the early feedback from players of Civilization VII, acknowledging the criticisms and outlining plans to enhance the gaming experience. On Thursday, the developer confirmed that they are focused on three key areas for improvement, with the user interface being the top priority.
"We need some time to digest all of your feedback, but some areas that we’re already looking into include making UI interactions more intuitive, improving map readability, and fixing areas of polish like formatting," Firaxis stated. "We’re committed to getting this right, and will share more details as soon as we can."
The community’s concerns about the game’s UI have been vociferous, with many players describing it as unrefined and subpar. One prominent user review on Steam criticized the interface, calling it "very poor" and a step backward from Civilization VI. Given this, Firaxis seems to acknowledge the need for significant UI improvements.
In addition to UI enhancements, Firaxis is also addressing other player suggestions. The developer is working on cooperative multiplayer teams, a broader variety of map types, and enabling custom city and religion names. Some relief is on the horizon for players, as patch 1.1.0 is scheduled for release in March, bringing quality-of-life UI adjustments, ongoing AI balance improvements, diplomacy tweaks, and additional bug fixes.
As Civilization VII continues to evolve, Firaxis appears to be committed to listening to the community and refining the game to meet player expectations. The official launch on Feb. 11 is just the beginning of what promises to be an engaging journey in the world of Civilization.
