Girish AD’s Anti-Heroes: A Look at the Characters That Challenge Societal Norms in His Films

Thanneermattan Dinaman is a film that came with the story of a group of two students and won the hearts of the audience. The director Girish AD managed to present the jokes that we use in our daily life very realistically through this film. In the director’s second film, the life of women in a girls’ hostel, which had not been explored in Malayalam till then, was shown on screen. Along with that, Girish also portrayed the college life of an ordinary girl through Super Sharanya. The third film, Premalu, can be said to be a perfect Malayalam romcom entertainer after a long time.

But in these three films, Girish has also created an anti-hero who stands alongside or above the central character. Ravi Padmanabhan in Thanneermattan Days, Ajith Menon in Super Sharanya and Adi in Premalu are Girish’s best character works. What is unique about these characters is that they show the negative side of a certain group of people who are considered a major event in society.

Ravi Padmanabhan, a teacher in Thanneermathan’s days, is the favorite of a student in his first class. Jason, the hero, makes fun of Ravi sir, who takes the first day’s class by telling stories and singing songs. This creates resentment in Ravi’s mind. Later, Ravi wastes no opportunity to humiliate Jason in front of people. Meanwhile, Ravi makes a name for himself as an excellent teacher by interacting well with other children. In this, Girish has depicted the teachers who point out students who are against him and humiliate them in front of everyone. Vineeth Srinivasan’s performance as Ravi Padmanabhan was brilliant throughout the film.

Arjun Reddy was a film directed by Sandeep Vanka Reddy, whitewashing toxic love. Many youngsters blindly imitated Arjun Reddy after watching this movie glorifying Kalipan-Kanthari love. Ajith Menon in Girish’s second film, Super Sharanya, was a representative of such people.

Ajith Menon’s fake version of the toxic character Arjun Reddy was the showrunner in Super Sharanya. Girish AD is also the savarnatha in all versions of Arjun Reddy, who played cast tails like Reddy in Telugu version, Verma in Tamil version and Singh in Hindi. Illustrated by Ajith Menon. Ajith Menon is actor Vineeth Vishwam’s career best role.

In today’s age where everyone thinks liberally, there are many people in society who say they are feminists on the outside but are extremely misogynistic on the inside. Girish portrays such people in Premalu’s role as Adi. Adi is played by Shyam Mohan who is famous for his web series Ponmuta.

Shyam’s performance in many scenes was better than that of hero Naslen. Adi is a character who can be called, in the New Generation generation, Careton, who declares that he is egalitarian in front of women to gain their favor, intervenes in all their affairs and imposes his opinion on them, saying that although for their good.

So, Girish AD presents some people as anti-heroes who are treated as a big event by a section of people in the society. There is no way without appreciating the writing. May there be more great characters like this from Girish’s pen.
