A man in his 60s who hid gold bars in a specific part of his body and smuggled it into Korea from China was sentenced to a suspended sentence of imprisonment and a fine of more than 600 million won.

Today (29th), Incheon District Court 1st Criminal Justice Kim Eun-yeop announced that he sentenced a man in his 60s charged with violating the Customs Act to 8 months in prison and 2 years of probation, and ordered additional collection of 688 million won.

Person A was indicted on charges of smuggling 15 kg of gold ingots worth 688 million won on 15 occasions while entering Korea from Incheon International Airport from October to December 2015.

He hid gold bars in certain parts of the body, such as anus, and then used the method of entering through Incheon International Airport. It was investigated that Mr. A took part in the crime when a person he knew through a business partner offered to pay 300,000 won each time he smuggled in gold bars.

Judge Kim said, “The amount of gold bars smuggled by the accused is not small and the guilt is heavy given the period, number, and method of the crime.”

He continued, “The defendant has no history of the same type of criminal punishment and is confessing to the crime,” he said.
