The AfD reached a record high of 20 percent in a survey in Baden-Württemberg. For the first time in years, the CDU is clearly ahead of the Greens.
In Baden-Württemberg, according to a survey, the CDU is clearly ahead of the Greens for the first time in many years. According to a survey published on Wednesday in Stuttgart by Infratest dimap for Südwestrundfunk (SWR) and the “Stuttgarter Zeitung”, the CDU would get 29 percent if a new state parliament were elected on Sunday. The Greens therefore achieved 22 percent.
According to SWR, this would be the worst poll result in almost nine years for Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann’s party, which currently governs with the CDU as its junior partner in a green-black coalition. There are currently no elections scheduled in Baden-Württemberg; only half of the legislative period is over in the state. The next election is scheduled to take place in 2026.

According to the survey, the AfD is currently on the rise in Baden-Württemberg and has reached a record 20 percent. The SPD would be in fourth place with twelve percent, the FDP would therefore be at eight percent.
CDU party leader in Baden-Württemberg resigns from office
Compared to the previous survey in July, the CDU around current party leader Thomas Strobl gained three percentage points. The state interior minister announced on Monday that he would not stand for re-election at a party conference in November. CDU state parliamentary group leader Manuel Hagel was named as his successor.
The Greens, who are currently struggling with falling poll numbers nationwide, lost two percentage points compared to the July survey, while the AfD gained one point and caught up with them. The SPD lost one point, the FDP gained one.
The Greens won the 2021 state election with 32.6 percent, well ahead of the CDU, which got 24.1 percent at the time. At the time, the SPD achieved eleven percent in the third largest federal state in terms of population size and area, where the CDU was once the dominant party for decades. The FDP got 10.5 percent, the AfD 9.7 percent.
