I compared the popular models “Series 7” and “SE” of Apple Watch | Lifehacker[Japan version]

As the popularity of the Apple Watch grows, Apple continues to launch more models.

Among them, the two most popular models are “Apple Watch Series 7” and “Apple Watch SE”.

This time, let’s compare these two models to decide which Apple Watch is right for you.

1. Display and design

One of the most striking differences between the Apple Watch Series 7 and Apple Watch SE is the size of the display.

Series 7 has the largest screen in the Apple Watch series. This size was achieved by making the case vertically long and significantly narrowing the frame around the screen. Let’s compare the display area by size.

45mm display model: 1,143mm2

41mm display model: 904mm2

44mm display model: 977mm2

40mm display model: 759mm2

SE has the same screen size as Apple Watch Series 4-6.

It may seem like a small difference, but it’s definitely different when comparing Series 7 and SE.The large display enhances every experience on your Apple Watch.

To showcase the size of the screen, Apple has two new dials that can only be used with the Series 7.

The “contour” dial has numbers placed on the edge of the display. The “Modular Duo” dial allows you to see two data-rich complications on one screen.

again,Starting with watchOS 8, Apple has made the buttons and on-screen elements of genuine apps such as Series 7 stopwatches, activities, and alarms even larger and easier to operate.

Features of Apple Watch

And the biggest feature of Series 7 only is that it has a QWERTY keyboard that can be tapped and swiped. A special AI allows you to see what you type on the screen.

The last difference between them is that Series 7 has an “always on” feature that SE doesn’t have.As you can imagine from the name, it always displays the time and information from the app, even with your wrist down.

Although the screen size is different, both models have a similar design with a Digital Crown and side buttons. Both the sensor and the charging connector are on the back.

2. Function

Series 7 and SE also have different measurable healthcare functions. Both have a heart rate sensor that measures your heart rate at that time and notifies you of the high or low heart rate. It also notifies you of irregular heartbeats.

Only Series 7 has the ability to measure blood oxygen and electrocardiogram.

Similar to heart rate measurement, Series 7 measures blood oxygen levels. It is an important indicator for measuring the value of hemoglobin in red blood cells that carry oxygen.

To use the ECG app, place your finger on the Digital Crown and measure the electrical signal from your heart. If you have an abnormal electrocardiogram, you may have a heart problem and may need treatment.

Unlike blood oxygen, the electrocardiogram must be done manually each time. All information can be found in Apple’s Healthcare app.

3. Battery life and charging

The size of the Series 7 and SE batteries isn’t that different, but Apple says they both have a maximum battery life of 18 hours under normal use.

Therefore, keep it good enough for a day until you charge it at night.

When it comes to charging speed, the Series 7 is better thanks to the improved hardware. With the Apple Watch Magnetic Fast Charging included with Series 7, you can charge up to 33% faster.

Thanks to this fast charging, a fully charged Series 7 can be fully charged in about 45 minutes.
