Iran Initiates Dialogue with Elon Musk Amid Tensions with Trump
Iran Meets with Elon Musk to Ease Tensions with Trump
Iran pursued a meeting with Elon Musk, aiming to reduce tensions with President-elect Donald Trump. According to a U.S. official, Iran’s U.N. Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani met Musk in New York. The meeting discussed various topics, including Iran’s nuclear program and its support for anti-Israel groups. No immediate decisions were made during this meeting, which the Trump transition team did not confirm or deny.
Iran’s state-run news agency IRNA later reported that the Foreign Ministry spokesman denied the meeting occurred, expressing surprise at the media coverage.
As Trump announced key foreign policy appointments, including Sen. Marco Rubio for Secretary of State, Iranian officials expressed concerns about Trump’s second term, anticipating a tough stance against Iran. Intelligence officials indicated that Iran opposed Trump’s return, viewing it as a potential increase in hostilities.
Recent intelligence also revealed an Iranian plot to assassinate Trump, which Iran denied. In contrast, Iran reportedly informed the Biden administration it would not attempt to kill Trump, in response to U.S. warnings that such an act would be seen as an act of war.
Despite Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s criticism of Trump, Iran’s new reformist president has left open the possibility for talks, looking for relief from harsh sanctions. The Trump transition team has not commented on Iran’s statements.
