Kim Min-jong Denies Allegations of Preferential Treatment in National Assembly Audit

Singer and Actor Kim Min-jong Denies Allegations of Preferential Treatment During Government Audit

Kim Min-jong, co-representative of KC Contents and a well-known singer and actor, appeared before the National Assembly’s audit on Tuesday to address allegations of preferential treatment surrounding his business endeavors.

During the comprehensive audit conducted by the Small and Medium Enterprises Business Committee for Trade, Industry and Energy, Democratic Party lawmaker Chung Il-young raised concerns about the K-Pop Content City development project, suggesting that improper actions had been taken to secure its rights.

Kim, who recently assumed the role of co-CEO at KC Contents, refuted these claims during his testimony. He detailed that the company proposed a 6.8 trillion won project for the K-Pop Content City to the Incheon Economic Office earlier this year. However, suspicions arose when it was revealed that the head of the Incheon Economic Office had met with Kim and other industry figures during a trip to the United States.

Lawmaker Jeong alluded to the establishment of a paper company with a capital of only 10 million won, insinuating that it was a front for the project. He further mentioned the cancellation of the project due to a controversy surrounding preferential treatment, pressing Kim to issue an apology for the delays and difficulties faced by local residents.

Kim’s Response and Defense

In response to Jeong’s accusations, Kim maintained his innocence. He expressed confusion over what he was supposed to apologize for and mentioned that the situation had caused him significant distress.

Kim defended his efforts in attracting renowned companies such as SM, JYP, and FNC, as well as various drama and film production companies. He mentioned ongoing discussions within the company about expanding to other local governments interested in the business.

Addressing his role in the company, Kim stated, “To be honest, I mainly focused on content creation while the business aspect was handled by another CEO.” The singer and actor highlighted his transition from a performer to a businessman and emphasized the similarities between the two roles.

Ultimately, Kim’s appearance as a witness aimed to clear his name and refute any allegations of wrongdoing. The outcome of the government audit will shed further light on the matter.

Actor and singer Kim Min-jong, co-representative of KC Contents, appeared before the National Assembly’s audit and denied allegations of preferential treatment relating to his business.

On the 26th, CEO Kim appeared as a witness in the comprehensive audit of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy by the Small and Medium Enterprises Business Committee for Trade, Industry and Energy. At the National Assembly inspection on this day, Democratic Party lawmaker Chung Il-young raised suspicions that the rights of the K-Pop Content City development project were improperly received through paper companies and lobbying, and Representative Kim explained this.

CEO Kim took office as co-CEO of KC Contents on July 18. On the 26th, KC Contents proposed a 6.8 trillion won K-Pop Content City project to the Incheon Economic Office. Prior to this, the head of the Incheon Economic Office went on a business trip to the United States in January, and was said to have met CEO Kim, former SM Entertainment CEO Lee Soo-man, and the company’s real estate development chairman, raising doubts about lobbying.

Referring to these doubts, Representative Jeong said, “After a business trip to the United States, a company called KC Contents was established, with a capital of 10 million won,” and claimed, “A paper company is this company.” He continued, “At the time, the project was conducted as a private contract, but it was canceled when a controversy arose regarding preferential treatment,” and asked CEO Kim, “Are you ready to apologize for the delay in the project and the difficulties faced by the residents?”

In response, CEO Kim responded, “I’m not sure what I should apologize for,” and “At some point, I went blank and had a mental breakdown for a few days.”

He added, “I have personally worked hard to attract companies like SM, JYP, FNC, and drama and film production companies. Even within the company, we are talking about going to other local governments that want this business, but I can’t do that yet.”

Regarding appearing as a witness in this inspection of the National Assembly, CEO Kim said, “To be honest, I was mainly working on content in the company, and the business part was being manipulation by another fellow CEO.” He added, “I’m a first-time actor. 35 years ago, but after today, I have turned into a businessman.” “It’s the same,” he said.
