The Vadakancherry Municipal Standing Committee Chairman and local leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Aravindakshan, was allegedly subjected to physical assault by officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) during questioning in connection with the Karuvannur Bank benami loan fraud case. In response to Aravindakshan’s complaint, the Ernakulam Central Police sought legal advice before officially registering an FIR (First Information Report).

Upon receiving the complaint, the police initiated an investigation at the ED’s office located on Ernakulam Mullassery Canal Road. Questioning was carried out by the ED officials, who recorded statements from various individuals, including Aravindakshan. The entire incident was captured on camera.

Unlike other investigative agencies, the Electoral Department, responsible for conducting investigations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), possesses judicial powers.
