Ministry of Science and Technology “As 5G frequency additional allocation key… “Auction in progress”

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it will confirm an additional supply plan for the 20 MHz 5G frequency band and announce the allocation plan for this content today (2nd).

The Ministry of Science and Technology acknowledged that the problem of cross-interference in the 3.4~3.42GHz section of the 5G frequency, which had been left over due to concerns about interference with public frequencies, has been resolved, and that investment can be stimulated through quality competition between telecommunication companies and the quality of 5G service can be improved. He explained that he decided to allocate additional frequencies in consideration.

However, the Ministry of Science and Technology added that as a condition of frequency allocation for the section, the obligation to establish a network for 5G quality improvement and early expansion of coverage will be further strengthened in the qualification requirements.

The frequency allocation method for the section is promoted by auction as before, but if one operator bids alone, it will be converted to allocation of government-calculated fees through screening in accordance with Article 11 (1) of the Radio Waves Act.

The Ministry of Science and Technology plans to receive applications for qualified corporations by the 4th of next month (July) and finally select them after screening for eligibility.

The frequency usage period is from November 1, this year, the allocation date, to November 30, 2028, when the use of existing 5G frequencies ends.
