The crash occurred shortly after takeoff from Crystal Airport in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, with the aircraft identified as a Beech F33A. Authorities responded to a report of the crash at 11:51 a.m. And found the plane had crashed and caught fire in a park shortly after departing.
North Dakota state Rep. Liz Conmy, of Fargo, was confirmed dead in the crash by her colleague, state Sen. Tim Mathern, who spoke with the Star Tribune. The North Dakota Democratic–Nonpartisan League Party, an affiliate of the national Democratic Party, later confirmed her death in a social media post, describing her as a champion for public education, the environment, and transparency.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that two people were aboard the aircraft. The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the crash and expects investigators to arrive at the scene soon. Local authorities, including Brooklyn Park Police Inspector Matt Rabe, stated there were no survivors.
Neighbors near the crash site reported hearing a loud boom and seeing flames. One resident described being in her bedroom when the boom occurred, while another captured video of the plane engulfed in flames shortly after impact. Emergency crews arrived quickly, but the intensity of the fire prevented rescue efforts.
