Pinterest’s New AI Search Feature Identifies Body Types in Images

Pinterest Introduces AI-Powered Image Search Feature to Identify Body Types

By [Digital Today AI Reporter]

Pinterest, the popular image-sharing social media platform, has announced the introduction of a new search feature empowered by artificial intelligence (AI). This innovative feature aims to enable users to search for images based on body shape, size, and form, among more than 5 billion images available on the platform.

Tackling Physical Discrimination

In a bid to address the issue of physical discrimination, Pinterest had previously pledged to integrate this technology into its platform. This commitment comes in the wake of alarming statistics; according to the Size Freedom Campaign, an estimated 34 million Americans faced discrimination based on their body type in 2019.

Explaining the rationale behind this initiative, Pinterest emphasized the negative impact of social media on teenagers, leading to unhealthy physical comparisons. As part of their efforts, the platform has expanded their AI technologies to encompass a wider range of skin tones, hair patterns, and has increased the diversity of female body types by fivefold.

Enhancing User Experience

Sabrina Ellis, Pinterest’s head of policy, expressed optimism about the potential impact of these features, stating, “We hope these new features will provide a more personalized and comprehensive experience on Pinterest.” Ellis added that while the platform is still in the early stages of testing, they are committed to sharing the results of their trials soon.
