[モスクワ 16日 ロイター] – Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with Iranian President Raisi on the 16th and called on all parties to refrain from actions that would provoke a new conflict. This was announced by the Presidential Administration of Russia.

Iran attacked Israel on the 13th in retaliation for an attack believed to have been carried out by Israel near the Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus, earlier this month. There are growing concerns that conflict in the Middle East region will expand. See more

According to the Office of the President of Russia, President Putin expressed hope that all parties will exercise appropriate restraint and prevent a new conflict that would have devastating consequences for the entire region. In response, President Raisi said that Iran’s actions were “limited” and stressed that Iran does not want tensions to escalate further.

According to the Russian President’s Office, the two leaders agreed that the unresolved conflict between Palestine and Israel is at the root of the current situation in the Middle East. They confirmed the principled response of Russia and Iran in supporting an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, improvement of the humanitarian situation, and a political and diplomatic solution.

This is the first time Putin has spoken publicly about Iran’s retaliatory attacks on Israel.

The Iranian side published a slightly different content than the Russian side regarding this phone conversation. Iranian state media reported that President Raisi promised to respond even more harshly and broadly to any actions contrary to Iran’s national interests.
