[마이데일리 = 최병진 기자] Radu Dragusin (22, Tottenham) had his first chance to start, but showed his worst.
Tottenham lost 0-3 in the 29th round of the 2023-24 English Premier League (EPL) against Fulham held at Craven Cottage in London, England on the 17th (Korea time).
Tottenham’s starting line-up included Gugliemo Vicario, Destiny Udogi, Dragusin, Christian Romero, Pedro Foro, Pape Sar, Yves Bissouma, Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, Dejan Klusevski and Son Heung-min.
The name that stood out the most on the start list that day was Dragusin. Dragusin wore the Tottenham outfit throughout the transfer market last winter. Tottenham looked for a third central defender to man the middle alongside Romero and Mickey van der Ven, and chose Dragusin as their target. Along with Tottenham, Bayern Munich also wanted Dragusin, but Tottenham was the winner of the recruitment war.
Dragusin rarely took the chance. Before that, he had only made 4 substitute appearances in the Premier League. And finally the opportunity came to begin. With main defender Van der Ven missing due to a hamstring injury, manager Enze Postekoglou included Dragusin in the starting line-up.
However, his debut as a starter went poorly. Tottenham were rattled by Fulham’s offensive from the start. In the end, the first goal was allowed to Rodrygo Muniz at 41 minutes of the first half. Fulham scored an extra goal in 4 minutes. Sasha Lukic opened the scoring with a one-touch shot from a cross from the right side.
Tottenham allowed Muniz’s third goal in the 15th minute of the second half, and in the process, Dragusin made an unfortunate decision. Dragusin failed to check Muniz’s movement the moment the ball hit the goal post. He even tried to tackle Munis late on, but was unable to prevent the goal.
Dragusin received harsh criticism after the game. According to the British ‘Football Fancast’, former Tottenham scout Brian King said, “Dragusin is too slow. We couldn’t keep up with the pace of the game at all. “We had to react faster, especially in the point-of-view scenes,” he criticized.
As he has his worst debut, previous interviews involving Dragusin are being re-examined. Dragusin’s agent, Florin Manea, said after his transfer to Tottenham, “A new journey begins. He also received interest from Munich. I want to go to the best club in the world. He left a scandalous comment saying, “Dragusin’s target is Real Madrid or Barcelona,” and this comment leads to ridicule.
