Rajpuram Student Overcomes Physical Challenges with Donation of Wheelchair

AGHSS Toth Student Receives Wheelchair Donation

Rajpuram: Ko, a young student from Palappuzha, faced a life-altering predicament when he lost both of his legs to a sudden illness. However, a ray of hope has recently shone upon him, as the Downtown Rotary Club generously donated a wheelchair to assist him in his daily activities. This remarkable act of kindness was made possible through the efforts of Zilla Panchayat Member Shinoj Chacko, Club President Binoy Kurien, Secretary Baby Melath, and Rajan Avani.

Despite his physical challenges, young Joel George, who studies in Class 5 at AGHSS Toth, initially attempted to attend school. However, as his illness progressively worsened, Joel found it increasingly difficult to walk, ultimately preventing him from attending school altogether. Nevertheless, his unyielding determination to continue his education led to an arrangement wherein a school teacher would visit his home once a week to provide lessons. Joel’s indomitable spirit and eagerness to learn shone through, despite the hindrance caused by the illness affecting only his legs, making studying and writing quite arduous.

Unfortunately, the lack of suitable transportation options compounded the difficulties faced by Joel and his family. The road leading to their home is treacherous, accessible only by jeeps, and during the rainy season, the situation worsens considerably. This predicament necessitated expensive jeep rentals, costing a substantial Rs. 300, whenever Joel required hospital visits. Additionally, even if a jeep was available, carrying the child uphill proved to be an arduous task for the family.

George, the breadwinner of the family and a laborer in Palappuzha Njarakkat, earns a livelihood by selling coconuts. With Joel requiring constant care and attention, his mother, Shiji, is unable to leave him alone at home. Meanwhile, Joel’s aunt, Janiya, is studying in the 3rd standard at Kototh School.

Joel’s unfortunate circumstances have left his family yearning for a better future. The desire to witness their beloved child attending school, despite his condition, is their utmost hope. Fortunately, the intervention of the Panchayat authorities has resulted in minor improvements to the hazardous road leading to their home. Nonetheless, the family remains desperate for a solution that would allow Joel to access medical facilities and attend school more conveniently. Their ultimate dream is to possess their own vehicle, which would remove the financial burden of jeep rentals and enable Joel to receive the necessary medical attention and education.

In their time of need, this family looks towards the kindness of compassionate individuals for assistance. Any help extended to them would undoubtedly transform their lives, offering young Joel George an opportunity to lead a fulfilling and prosperous future.
