The “THETA X” has appeared to fill in the holes in the conventional Advanced model “THETA V”, but the recording resolution has exceeded that of the flagship model “THETA Z1”!

The optical system has also been revamped and the sensor size is 1 / 2.0 type. The still image resolution is 11K (11008x5504px), which is the highest at the moment for a 360-degree consumer camera, and the maximum video can be shot at 5.7K@30fps.

The big change in appearance is that it is equipped with a 2.25-inch touch panel LCD.

This makes it easier to make detailed settings that previously required connecting to a smartphone app, using only the main unit.

The THETA V / Z1 also worked on an Android-based system, but the operation feeling of THETA X is not much different from that of a smartphone app.

Wireless LAN connection is also easy, and if you connect to Wi-Fi in client mode, you can upgrade the firmware and install plug-ins with just the main unit.

Furthermore, usability has been dramatically improved, such as replacing the battery and storage (MicroSD), which have been requested by many users, and moving the USB terminal from the bottom to the side.

Please see the examples of still images and videos.

Video material taken out

The improvement in resolution is obvious when you actually shoot, but you need to set the maximum resolution for both still images and videos, not the default setting.

Also, since it is necessary to turn off Wi-Fi when shooting videos at 5.7K @ 30fps and 4K @ 60fps, it is not possible to connect to a smartphone and only the main unit operation is enabled.

The video is stitched and zenith corrected in real time in the main unit and recorded as Equirectangular. Since the conventional conversion process is not required, you can upload the shooting data to YouTube as it is and publish it as a 360-degree VR video.

It also supports live streaming at 4K @ 30fps, but it takes up to about 25 minutes under a 25 degree environment. It is said that it will be possible to deliver for a long time at 2K @ 30fps by upgrading the farm in the future.

Anyway, the still image performance is outstanding, so it will be the best one for business use as a main still image.

However, it has become considerably more expensive than THETA V, so replacement users from THETA V / SC2 are a little annoyed …

Those who frequently record still images and those who emphasize resolution will be satisfied.
