Royal Navy to Deliver Aid to Gaza in New Humanitarian Maritime Corridor Initiative

Britain’s Foreign Office and Ministry of Defense said on Saturday (April 6) that the Royal Navy would deliver aid to Gaza in line with international plans to help establish a new humanitarian maritime corridor in early May.

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said several countries, including the United States, Cyprus and other allies, are planning to develop a new temporary port off the coast of Gaza.

“The situation in Gaza is dire and famine is likely. We remain committed to providing support to those who need it,” said Mr Cameron in a statement.

Meanwhile, Cameron also pledged £9.7 million ($12.26 million) to provide support equipment and logistics expertise to help establish a sea corridor from Cyprus to Gaza.

Britain’s Foreign Office said the plan would see aid supplies screened in Cyprus before being sent directly to Gaza via a new temporary port to be built off the coast or through the port of Ashdad once Israel agrees to open the port.

Grant Shapps, British Defense Minister, said that a new temporary port will be located off the coast of Gaza containing cargo ships that will provide maritime support.
