A 36-year-old San Jose man died early Saturday morning when a four-car collision struck him while he was standing outside his disabled Toyota on southbound Highway 101, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Mercury News reported that the fatal crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. north of Tully Road, leaving one driver with major injuries and temporarily closing all southbound lanes of the South Bay freeway.

Fatal Highway 101 Crash Details

The victim was standing outside his broken-down Toyota on the southbound lanes when a Honda and a Ford struck both the man and his vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said. The 36-year-old resident suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Driver Conditions and Investigation Status

The driver of the Honda, a 39-year-old Hayward man, sustained major injuries in the crash. The driver of the Tesla, a 26-year-old Los Banos man, suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Ford, a 33-year-old San Jose man, emerged uninjured. Investigators confirmed that the drivers of the Honda, Ford, and Tesla all remained at the scene to cooperate with the inquiry, and the California Highway Patrol stated that none of them were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
