Slam Dunk Success: Okinawa City Basketball Day Scores Big with Thrilling Action and Community Spirit
Okinawa City Basketball Day: A Step Towards Creating a Basketball Mecca
Okinawa City Basketball Day, sponsored by Okinawa City, was held at Okinawa Arena on Sunday, August 25th. This event was held for the first time with the aim of turning Okinawa Arena into a basketball mecca, inheriting the holidays between August 25th and September 3rd, when the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 was held at Okinawa Arena, as Basketball Day.
At the opening ceremony, messages were delivered to the participants by Okinawa City Vice Mayor Tsuyoshi Yamauchi, Okinawa City Council Speaker Ryoichiro Hankeyama, and Okinawa Prefectural Basketball Association Chairman Noburi Nikkoshi.
Afterwards, four friendly matches were played between selected teams of elementary and junior high school students from Okinawa City. In addition, a basketball clinic was held by Okinawa City native and Ryukyu Golden Kings U18 Head Coach Tsubasa Yonamine, with the participation of approximately 100 elementary and junior high school students.

Additionally, Okinawa Arena Co., Ltd. was also involved in the management and other aspects of this event, providing support for this commemorative event.

We will continue to nurture children’s dreams through activities like this, and will also focus on making Okinawa Arena a “basketball mecca.”
